The Third Moderator Election! The Third Moderator Election of WriteBrains.net begins! How do Moderators work on WriteBrains.net?On this forum, Moderators are elected for 6-month non-consecutive terms. Normally, any member with over 6 months' membership may submit their candidacy, and other members with 6 months' membership may vote. All founder members, however, automatically have this right - you'll know if you're a founder member because you'll be reading this! You can also see your membership of the 'Longstanding Member' group in your profile (and you can set this as your display group too, if you wish. Just navigate to the 'Settings' tab after clicking the 'Edit Profile' button). How do Moderator Elections work on WriteBrains.net?1. After an Election is triggered, there is one week for submission of candidacy and campaigning, which is conducted in the election thread (this one!). 2. After the one week candidacy/campaigning period, a poll is established of all the candidates, and a three-day voting period begins. 3. After the voting period ends, the winners of the poll are duly elected Moderators, depending on how many Moderators are up for election. For this one, we're electing two Moderators. Where can I find more detailed information about the election process and Moderator duties? The election process is codified in The Forum Code (§2.2.E.), as are Moderator duties. You can find the current version of The Forum Code in 'The Rules' subforum of 'The Town Hall' category, though these are subject to change during this beta test of WriteBrains.net, and may be inaccurate at the time of writing (for instance, Moderators are not to be anonymous, since this reduces their accountability and poses security risks for the forum). How many Moderators are being elected in this Moderator Election?2. Okay... good luck! Election begins!

I wish to be considered for this opening on the Mod team. It'll be interesting to see how the dynamics of this structure works with rotating members in and out of Modding. Is that a word? Heh. In the old days we got a Ban Hammer. Admittedly it was mostly for Trolls and there doesn't seem to be a need for that anymore....thankfully. Yes? Well... so no need for a hammer. I'd settle for a magic sword.... Hahahaha So... I offer my 66yrs of worldly experiences on this planet for the benefit of all here. <3

I have a question for one of the candidates: ave Considering that you were asked to resign as an Owner for deleting security logs in your own interest, which we regarded as very serious, how can you reassure the community that you'll actually be trustworthy in the role of Moderator? I dismiss the premise of the question. No deletion occured strictly in my interest, but in the what I perceived to be the interest of maintaining a stable community with no redundant conflicts. Furthermore, the moderation team needs someone with leadership experience in our community who has the courage to make tough decisions on behalf of our community. As a candidate, that's experience that I have, and only I have. I do not shy away from my record. I've made tough decisions. A critical part of being a moderator is the fortitude to make tough decisions and that's something I have in spades. I find humility, honesty, transparency and accountability to be essential in any position of "power." Perhaps you could elaborate on how you and only you have more courage and experience than the other two candidates who have previously been moderators.

Voting Open
Voting is now open, and will close 20:00GMT on the 19th July 2022.All forum members, including Staff, may vote for TWO candidates. The TWO candidates with the highest number of votes shall be elected Moderator, serving for a term of 6 months.Good luck, candidates!***We should like to add a clarification: - The records of previous Moderators running for election are relevant to those running for re-election, and should be considered transparent to the forum community, for the sake of oversight and accountability. - It is the duty of the elected Advocate to audit Moderators (§§2.3.A., 2.3.H.) and to inform the community during elections about their records, should these not be disclosed. - However, while this means that running for election as a Moderator invites such scrutiny over one's record, it does not mean that the Forum makes it a habit of disclosing matters that were previously handled discreetly or in private. - In this case, we would like to make it known that we would, in future, have preferred to give ave the courtesy of the choice of withdrawing his candidacy before his record was disclosed.
The Owners believe that, while transparency is paramount for any staff member executing their office for the sake of Membership oversight, some kinds of 'transparency' do not accord with the forum's ethos* where it conflicts with personal privacy. For such an individual, their feelings of 'safety, openness, and fairness' are better served by first giving them the choice to guard this privacy.
*'A space conducive to intimate, personal, and free expression demands an institutional structure that engenders feelings of safety, openness, and fairness.'

Clarification on eligibility to vote
- ALL forum members of any rank, role, or responsibility may vote. This includes Electors, Longstanding Members, Advocates, Moderators, Owners, and the Community Liaison.
- Owners who maintain a separate posting account may only vote from one account (§§2.1.E.3., 2.5.B.1.).
- Only New Members (§2.5.C.1.) and Members (§2.5.D.2.) are currently barred from voting in elections, though no forum members of these ranks currently exist. This may change in future versions of The Forum Code to reduce qualification requirements.
- Candidates are permitted to vote for themselves.

Happy to answer any questions anyone may have for me.
I have previously been a moderator on multiple forums and facebook groups.
I firmly believe in kindness and respect and freedom of expression in line with those two things.

Being old gives one advantages and disadvantages when navigating the complexities of our society. On the one hand the many years of life can rub off the rough edges and bring about compassion for self and others. If the wisdom gained from living life by the old ones could be given and received freely to younger generations it benefits all. On the other hand if one does not seek new experiences and knowledge garnered by engaging with younger people one cannot bridge the gap between the old and the new. It made me sad to hear my peers declare there was never going to be anything gained by learning from a young person. Whaaat? For myself there was treasure and wisdom gained for me by engaging with all the younger than me people who came and went over at the old infjs forum. Especially my time as a moderator there.
I now know for a fact that “I don't know what I don't know”...and I hope I have the courage to listen with an open heart mind to all.
