I'm not going to give any spoilers in case there are people yet to see it. This easily goes into my #1 spot for Batman films. Like a lot of people I have grown weary of the super hero genre that has been shoved in our faces for the past 15 years or so. But if a Batman movies out then I have to see it. He's ma main man. What I love about this outing is the sheer weight of the film. It's slow, melancholic, dark and dreary. Wayne spends more time in his Batsuit than out of it unlike in other films. He's also doing actual detective work. Solving a crime as it unfolds instead of being 90% hashy bashy and crash bang wallop. I can't wait to own the movie because there were a good handful of moments of absolute cinematic beauty with some of the shots. Utterly gorgeous film making in a few sections of the film. The good lady is a Riddler fan and came away a little frustrated but I'm sure this is part one of a mini series and we'll see more. In terms of box office performance, the film is absolutely crushing it so the budget and hunger is there. I have waited a lifetime for an actual Batman film and it finally arrived. It's dark, rainy, moody, gothic and downright gritty. Please sir!

I have to agree; I love neo-noir films and the grittiness of them, but I'm not necessarily a Batman fan (I can take or leave him). But I did enjoy this film, wholeheartedly. The villain surprised the heck out of me with his ruthlessness, but it fit really well. And I loved the evolution of Bruce Wayne in his beginning years as a pure vigilante to something new and undiscovered (at least for him). No spoilers, but it was a great film. Better than Nolan, and that's saying something.

The fact that Batman is outpaced at every turn by the Riddler was excellent. We see Wayne as the brute discovering that it is his more cerebral and compassionate sides that are going to make a difference. The Batmobile was top noch, the cops and especially Gordan were spot on. The fact that John Tutorro was even in the cast was worth the price of admission. All an and all as a devoted Batman fan I give this film two thumbs up with the caveat that, if your not already a fan then it is too long by half (though I left wanting more).

I just watched the new Batman movie last weekend. I enjoyed it though for me I think it's one of those movies I'll only care to see once. The noir/crime mystery aspect of it was cool. I was puzzled by the Batman theme music sounding kinda Darth Vader-ish lol.
I really don't want to spoil anything but the Riddler's final plan.. man. It was wild seeing something like that reflected in film. Because you know once stuff like that makes it into film it's because it's already been cemented as part of the culture. It's really speaking to that. A social commentary on radicalization. That was chilling because though it's obviously a fantastical story that part was plausible.
It was interesting seeing Batman realize that he was really the inspiration for Riddler.

What I will say is that we really got to see Batman the Detective here. My first thought after an hour in is, "You're this capable and you're dressed like a damned bat, Bruce? This is really the best idea you could come up with?" LMAO! It's so funny to think of it like that. Imagine Batman showing up to the station in his "uniform" sitting at his detective desk drinking a mug of coffee filling out paperwork. I also found myself wondering something similar. We never actually hear Selena Kyle called Catwoman do we? And her mask is a ski mask with two points that happen to resemble cat ears. It's very subtle.

I'm going to try and watch this again this week. Its rolled around in my subconscious since viewing and just seeing this thread again made me want to drop everything and go back to Gotham.
